T1 Wk 4: Breadboards, puzzle pyramids and metres

We had a busy and productive week with students absorbed in many different learning tasks. They built a simple circuit on a breadboard during our STEM session. There was great excitement when they managed to upload their code and turn on their LED light. We learnt that by changing the resistors we could adjust the brightness of the light. Resistance is measured in Ohms. Students discovered that a brighter LED light output required a lower value resistor. Peter Januarius from NexGen provided a great learning tool for students to use at home to practice building a circuit on a breadboard using TinkerCAD. In maths we looked at different mental strategies for addition and used the puzzle pyramid activity to decide which strategies are more efficient for different addition sums. This is a work in progress! We also made our very own own metre tape measure using grid paper. We will use these to measure lengths over a metre. Students needed to use their multiplication knowledge to work out (and check) how many groups of 10 they needed to shade, to make a 1 m (100 cm) tape measure. Have a wonderful weekend!
