Last chance to order books through Scholastic is Monday 26 November and last chance to borrow before the end of term is week 7. 
Library books will need to be returned the following week, at the latest by Thursday 6 December 2018.

Mathematics Comes to Life!

Students are especially motivated by Mathematics that connects with the world around them. This term, Year 3 and 4 have been exploring the skills involved in running a lemonade stand. This has been a fun way to explore a range of ideas related to measurement, number sense and money.

To make their learning even more exciting, they will be running their own drink stall next Monday,
26 November at recess.

Students will be able to purchase lemonade, raspberry fizz or a banana smoothie, made by the students, for $1.50.

We hope many of our students will support this authentic learning project by purchasing a cup from one of the stalls.

Music - Instrumental Program - 2019

All students in Years 3, 4 and 5 who do not currently play a musical instrument are warmly invited to consider taking up a musical instrument in 2019. Playing a musical instrument offers many benefits to children and we offer a range of exciting musical opportunities at St Luke's, Bayview. For 2019, we are offering FREE hire of brass instruments.

The note below provides you with all the necessary details.

Request for Parent Helpers for Lemonade Stand

Dear 3WL Parents,

This term in Maths, Year 3 and 4 have been working together to plan, budget and create a Lemonade Stand from scratch. We have been stretching our mathematical thinking creating this fun event. 

• We had to work out the area of the handball court to determine how many tables can fit there.
• We had to work out the perimeter of the paper to determine how big to make our signs.
• We had to work out how many millilitres and litres cups and jugs hold to determine how much liquid can fit in these containers.
• We had to use multiplication of whole numbers and fractions to determine how much supplies we needed to purchase if doubling or tripling the recipe.
• We had to work out the cost of all the materials we need to buy to determine the cost of each drink. 

We will be opening up the Lemonade Stand for students on Monday 26 November. I am looking for 6 parent helpers to help us out for this particular event. You will be stationed to one group to help them make their drinks and distribute the drinks to the students. 

We will be selling the drinks during our recess time (10:30 to 10:50) but if you can arrive at 9:30 am to help set up and stay until 11:30 to help pack up, that would be greatly appreciated.

Cardboard boxes and paper towel tubes needed by 15 November

Dear Year 3 parents and students,

If you have any large cardboard boxes and paper towel, or other long poster-style tubes that you don't want please send them in to Mrs Duffy.

 

 I have planned a design challenge for year 2 and would be grateful for extra supplies.

Year 6 Big Breakfast

Ahoy Sailors!

Friday Sailing has been a major hit. Students are truly privileged to dip their toe in the water with this sporting activity. We have also been blessed with amazing weather over the past three weeks. All the students have grasped this opportunity with eagerness, courage and enthusiasm. A huge thank you to Mr Rovere for organising this for Year 3 and 4.
